Powdered Sugar Hack - Get Rid of Large Powdered Sugar Lumps

Well one of the most frustrating things in the kitchen that ranks high in the pet peeves department is when I open a new bag of powdered sugar and it is full of rocky lumps.  It usually happens in the home stretch of finishing a cake, I am tired, and there is no time to go to the store in search of another bag.

The latest one that turned out this way looked like it came from the stone age.  Now what?  I sifted the lumps out and thought about what to do next.

I thought about squishing the little rocks with a spoon or my fingers to break them up.  Nope, they were too hard for that.  So I pulled out the little food processor I used to use for baby food which I now use for chopping up things in small amounts.  Would it work?  Didn't know, but it was worth a try.

The picture below shows the result.  It did a pretty good job!  Not perfect, there were still teeny tiny micro lumps, but it was much better than rocks.  I decided to try using it and whipping the frosting an extra long time in hopes that they would dissolve or smooth out.

It did made a great cream cheese frosting!  It worked!  As you see in the picture below, it was a success!
