Farmer's Market Report - June 24, July 1 & 8, 2017 Leesburg, VA

Savor the summer and all its bounty!  In my farmers market reports I share some of the highlights I bring home from the Leesburg Farm Market in Leesburg, VA and the recipes of what I did with my goodies.

Here is what I brought home from Shenandoah Seasonal.  Their blue/purple potatoes are fun to cut into and they taste and roast like regular potatoes.  What a neat color!

I tossed them with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then roasted them in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Curly Kale!  This kale is pretty and ruffled.  It is a little tougher than baby kale so I cook it uncovered in a stock made with salt pork.  It enhances the flavor, keeps its color, and has a little shine when cooked this way.  Then I make a bacon white sauce (béchamel) to top it off.  Here is my recipe for Curly Kale with Salt Pork and Béchamel.

Here is an idea for your kohlrabi.  Roast it with chicken and potatoes for an easy one pot meal.  See the recipe for Roast Chicken with Kohlrabi and Potatoes.

I used this dill leaf from Full Moon Farm to top off the Curly Kale with Salt Pork and Béchamel.

I picked up raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries from Allder School Berries.  I made a salad dressing with the raspberries from Allder School Berries and golden beets from Shenandoah Seasonal.  See the recipe for Raspberry and Golden Beet Salad Dressing.  I paired it with arugula from Shenandoah Seasonal.  What an amazing combination with the sweet raspberries and the kick from the arugula!

For July fourth we brought home corn from Plietez Produce.  Try the recipe for Cream Corn Soufflé.
